Knitting Next Steps: Cabled Hats! Wednesday July 16th 9am-12pm
This 3-hour class is perfect for anyone looking to expand their knitting skills and is a perfect follow up to our ribbed hat knitting workshopl. You’ll receive a kit with everything you need—a skein of Maine raised & processed wool, a pattern, double pointed knitting needles, a cable needle and instruction! This fun and inclusive space is all about creating and connecting. We will review long tail cast on, knitting, purling & decreasing stitches, and we will learn how to use a cable needle and double pointed needles!
The Paddling Megunticook Beanie is the first of a series of patterns to support the Maine Fibershed, its farmers and mills by highlighting yarns that range from Alpaca to Yak. Paddling Megunticook is an stress-free introduction to cables, as they only lean in one direction, and you only dip the cable needle into the hat every 19 rounds.
The yarn for this class was spun by Stacy's Spinning Haven in Milford, Maine. It is a beautiful natural grey, 100% Romney wool with a subtle sheen that comes from high quality, natural fiber. The perfect balance of squishy and durable that is perfect for showing off your gorgeous cables!
Class is limited to 8 students. If the class is sold out, you can email Annie@SouthportGeneralStore.com to be added to the waitlist. Cancellations less than 48 hours in advance are non-refundable. Workshops take place in The Barn. The Southport General Store will be open during class and each student will receive a 10% off coupon for snacks. Email Annie@SouthportGeneralStore.com with any questions. We look forward to creating with you!
Annie Buchholz, one of our managers of The Barn, has a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Knitting was one of Annie's first creative mediums. She has been knitting for over 20 years and even had the chance to take a sculptural knitting course in college where she learned to use knitting as an element in conceptual art pieces. Nowadays, Annie is hooked on triangle shawls. She makes a couple every year for her friends and loves creating her own colorwork patterns.
